Hey i'm finding that Live 8 still lacks a feature i need (unless i'm overlooking something).
Not sure of the terminology of what i'm looking to do.. Its like simple sample-playback, but..
I'd like to be able to play back long unwarped session clip audio files, a little at a time.
Basically these are long spoken vocal passages, and i want to be able to play them from the start, piece by piece, pausing and resuming playback, over and over again,.. all this while the tempo-tied tracks continue uninterrupted, unaffected. Know what i mean? Anybody have any ideas?

I'm well aware that i can make loads of copies of the clip, with different start and stop times..
but this quickly gets tedious, wasting dozens of clip slots, and not allowing for spontaneity..Traktor Pro 2 Rewire Ableton
So.. i'm sure the technology is out there; but I wanna be able to do this all on one laptop (and ideally all inside one program, so i can route everything through Live's effects. While we're at it, it'd be nice to be able to record vocals on the fly, and then playback in the same fashion.. but of course this added on-the-fly feature would be heading me towards needing 2 laptops.. so i could live without it).
In the clips view, i was happy to find that in Live 8 clips can now be scrubbed (but only if they're warped), though scrubbing isn't as precise as start-and-stop. And i'd like to be able to record my output as well. So again, we're close, but no cigar.

I own Traktor 3.4, and i guess i could use it to play these tracks, and route the audio into Live (?) (Does Traktor Pro allow for ReWire?)
Well, i don't need to sync these audio tracks, just play-back regardless of tempo. Maybe i could use Live's 'Sampler' (?), but i'm guessing i wouldn't be able to start and stop, and once stopped, continue where i left off.. that's the key: being able to slowly unveil a spoken passage piece by piece, on the fly.
Maybe i can use 2 versions of Live on the same laptop, running one into the other? (might get messy with program versions, libraries, recording one's results)..

Also, a related question: Can't you loop session clips without having to have them warped? Looping is greyed-out unless you activate warp (unless i'm overlooking something).
